“The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born – that there is a genetic factor to  leadership…. In fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born.”

(Warren Bennis- an  American scholar, organizational consultant, and author, widely regarded as a pioneer of the contemporary field of leadership studies).

Why is Emotional Intelligence (EQ) important?

Emotional intelligence (EQ) describes a new way of being smart that is as equally important to achieving leadership success as is cognitive intelligence (IQ) or technical expertise  (TQ). It involves two parts:

  • Firstly, by becoming aware of how emotions in ourselves and  others drive behaviours and
  • Secondly, by developing skills to manage these emotions intelligently to leverage our personal strengths.

In leadership, the ultimate aim is to successfully create and operate programs (or produce products), solve problems, and effectively influence the positive performance of others.

Can you identify, assess, review, and grow your own (or your team’s) emotional intelligence?

Theory Of Performance

COGNITIVE IQ* + TECHNICAL SKILLS TQ** X EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE EQ***  = LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL

Leadership potential is the product of cognitive intelligence (IQ) and technical skills (TQ) and is maximised by high emotional intelligence (EQ)

How can you grow and support those leadership skills?

  • Undertake an Emotional Capital Survey that will provide an Emotional Capital Report (ECR), which is designed to measure an individual’s emotional intelligence as it pertains to effective  leadership. The ten areas of competency promote discussion, self-reflection and building of  EQ and leadership success. You can choose to undertake just the self-report. (Cost pp $676 including debriefing)

OR

  • Undertake the ECR 360 (Multi – Rater). This includes self-responses combined with  colleagues’ ratings (such as managers, those directly reporting to you, peers, and co-workers,  to provide a 360-degree perspective. (Cost pp $1,165 including debriefing)

Who can help you grow your emotional Intelligence (EQ)?

Kerry Hamer, local personal growth and career coach and mentor has achieved certification for the delivery and debriefing of the Emotional Capital Report (ECR) and/or the 360 (Multi – Rater) Report,  designed by RocheMartin. Kerry will help you through empathetic and supportive feedback, to gain a  deeper understanding of your emotional intelligence. Using the ECR as a starting point, Kerry can provide a positive, personalised framework for meaningful conversations to help you (or your team)  unlock your potential, achieve your goals, and identify specific areas for growth and development for effective leadership.

Who designed the ECR and the ECR 360?

These scientific tools have been designed by Dr. Martyn L. Newman, Ph.D., D. Psych. and Judy Purse,  MAPS, psychologists, for RocheMartin, based on research from Bar-on (1997) and Goleman (1995) and can be traced back to Thorndike’s work on social intelligence (1920).
